Digital Edition FAQ
COMMON PROBLEMS
The most common problem with digital downloads is a corrupt file. This can be caused by a number of issues relating to your network connection, company download policies or software installed on your computer. The #1 culprit for corrupt files is anti-virus programs. Their scans are a known problem for PDF files. If you’re using an anti-virus application, be sure to disable it prior to downloading the file. You can re-enable it when the download is complete.
WHAT’S THIS ERROR MEAN?
The error message “Cart Error: Free Checkout blocked for your IP address” will appear if you have attempted too many free or subscription downloads in a row — you will not be able to complete the final download. This is caused by too many cart checkout attempts in a row: it’s a flood control system to block bad bots and miss-use of the system. To avoid this issue, select all the issues you want to download and add them to a single cart before proceeding to checkout. If you do receive this error after repeated downloads, you will be granted access again after 48 hours automatically, no other action is required. Or, if you have a second computer on a different IP address you can use that without waiting.
HOW TO BUY
To purchase a digital edition of Forever MX-5 Magazine, simply find the issue you’re interested in and click the “Add to Cart” button. Once you’ve added all the issues you’re interested in, you can complete the checkout process. When completed, you will be able to download the PDF files to our computer, either by clicking the link sent to your email reader, or by selecting the link directly in your browser after purchase is complete.
WHAT IF I’M A SUBSCRIBER?
You will have received a download code in an email for the applicable issues. If you feel didn’t, please contact our customer support to request a download code.
But what then? Can you do more than just read it on your desktop computer? Of course!
GETTING THE MOST FROM DIGITAL EDITIONS
A digital edition is a lot more flexible than a traditional magazine. Here are some suggestions:
MX-5 Miata Clubs! Feel free to print sections of the digital edition to hand out at your meetings or to include in your club newsletter. We only ask that you give proper credit by way of an announcement (meetings) or by giving us a plug in your newsletter (Example: Thanks to Forever MX-5 for the insert. Visit them at www.forevermx5.com and download the complete digital issue!) Do not sell copies to your members.
Load to your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch: The Apple iPhone can display PDF documents without any additional software. In fact, Forever MX-5 reads and navigates beautifully on this mobile device. (Only shortcoming is that hot-links are disabled) The easiest way to load it is to email yourself, then download the email in your iPhone’s mail client. This is suggested only for issues that are under 20mb (issues #4 and higher)
Read it on your Apple iPad or similar device: Our PDF files are already compatible with the new Apple iPad. We also assume it will work with all Android mobile devices, too, but they aren’t as consistent with file support — so no guarantees. Unfortunately, Amazon’s Kindle can’t currently handle magazine-quality PDF layouts.
Print the Magazine: If you really hate forests you can certainly print the entire magazine. We instead ask that you only print the articles you’re interested in most. No reason to print off the photo pages if you’re just using a laser printer. They’ll look better on the screen, anyhow.
Make Wall Art: If you have a photo printer (and many folks do) we highly recommend printing off our full-page photos, or even the cover art, and mounting them on your wall or in your garage. Most images are rendered at 150dpi, which makes them great for printing on some glossy printer.
Share it with a Friend of Family Member: No, seriously, go ahead. But please understand, we have to sell copies of the digital edition to help fund future issues. So, we don’t mind you sharing a copy with an occasional close friend. If we find anyone is abusing our goodwill sharing privileges, we will have to adopt file locking systems (DRM)… and we don’t really want to do that.
